New York spot gold regained $30.20 Thursday, pausing at $5,194.60. The TSX Venture Exchange added 19.77 points to 1,106.69 while the TSX gold index rose 25.39 points to 1,089.82. West Red Lake Gold Mines Ltd. (WRLG) did well today, adding eight cents to $1.38 on 9.03 million shares. So did Iamgold Corp. (IMG), which rose $1.21 to $32.64 on 4.02 million shares. Oceanagold Corp. (OGC), on the other hand, dropped 67 cents to $57.55 on 1.57 million shares, and Perseus Mining Ltd. (PRU) tagged along, dipping 12 cents to $5.75 on 79,000 shares.

Tara Christie's Banyan Gold Corp. (BYN) rose four cents to $1.40 on 1.39 million shares on word that it "continues to intersect visible gold and high-grade mineralization" in the Powerline deposit of its AurMac project in central Yukon. One of the new holes in which the core loggers eyeballed specks of gold returned 1.06 grams per tonne across 49.6 metres, while a second delivered 0.79 gram per tonne over 20.4 metres.
