New York spot gold added $91.30, pausing for a quick breath Wednesday afternoon at $4,759.10. The TSX Venture Exchange gained 16.71 points to 974.55 and the TSX gold index rose 35.98 points to 941.17 today. Nearly all Canadian gold miners gained ground. New Found Gold Corp. (NFG), a laggard of late, had its second solid day in a row, adding 18 cents to $2.78 on 1.7 million shares. Capstone Copper Corp. (CS) also did well, gaining 83 cents to $11.32 on 15.24 million shares.
Revelry was muted among shareholders of Robert Friedland's Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (IVN), as it shed $1.38 to $10.51 on 53.78 million shares on an updated study of its Kamoa-Kakula copper complex project in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Ivanhoe is a major copper producer and looks to add more, but it is increasingly a precious metals producer as well, as its Platreef mine in South Africa looks to expand next year.
