New York spot gold dropped $37 Thursday, taking a break at $4,651. The TSX Venture Exchange lost 1.05 points to 1,015 while the TSX gold index fell 16.76 points to 918.15. Most precious metals miners moved lower today. There was no rest for West Red Lake Gold Mines Ltd. (WRLG) as it continued its southbound trek, which began earlier this year at the $1.49 mark. Today it dipped two cents to 71 cents on 4.51 million shares. McEwen Inc. (MUX) also lost ground, dropping $1.59 to $33.91 on 95,000 shares.
Darren Hall's Equinox Gold Corp. (EQX), $20.53 earlier this week, lost 15 cents to $19.75 on 11.27 million shares today as word of the company's at-the-market offer for Jason Simpson's Orla Mining Ltd. (OLA) got around. Yesterday, Equinox and Orla applauded a friendly arrangement whereby Equinox would pay one cent and one share for each Orla share -- an arrangement that gives Orla's shareholders one-third of the expanded Equinox.
