New York spot gold added $52.20 to $4,174.10 on Friday. The TSX Venture Exchange moved higher, jumping 23.90 points to 938.28 while the TSX gold index gained 14.88 points to 806.30. Most precious metals miners followed bullion higher today. Aris Mining Corp. (ARIS), silent since May, added 97 cents to $23.64 on 508,000 shares, while Jaguar Mining Inc. (JAG) rose 30 cents to $5.75 on 121,000 shares. Not everyone was happy, as West Red Lake Gold Mines Ltd. (WRLG) dipped one cent to 67 cents on 1.31 million shares.
Juan Gavidia's Orvana Minerals Corp. (ORV) rose seven cents to $1.71 on 221,000 shares on word that it has drilled a 1.25-metre interval at depth that averaged 9.19 grams of gold and 28.1 grams of silver per tonne plus 5.55 per cent copper at its Taguas project in Argentina. This follows word late in May of a hole that yielded a two-metre interval grading 32.34 grams of gold and 4.5 grams of silver per tonne plus 0.06 per cent copper.
