New York spot gold slipped $13.60 to $4,160.50 on Monday. The TSX Venture Exchange lost ground, dropping 14.07 points to 924.21, while the TSX gold index shed 13.69 points to 792.61. Most precious metals miners moved lower today. Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. (WDO) fell 76 cents to $27.50 on 1.46 million shares, while Pan American Silver Corp. (PAAS) lost $3.91 to $64.01 on 1.91 million shares. DPM Metals Inc. (DPM), on the other hand, managed an eight-cent gain, ending the day at $51.02 on 2.04 million shares.

Keith Boyle's New Found Gold Corp. (NFG) lost 15 cents to $2.35 on 1.06 million shares on word that the Newfoundland government has advised that an environmental review report is required for the phase I development of its Queensway project, west of Gander in north-central Newfoundland. New Found Gold will receive guidelines for the completion of the report within 60 days -- snails are speed demons when compared with bureaucrats -- and once the report is submitted, it will be subject to a 35-day public review, after which the government will provide a decision within another 45 days. (For those counting, the days run out with about 20 shopping days before Christmas.)
