New York spot gold rebounded from its sluggish Thursday, ending the week up $42.30 to $4,392.60. The TSX Venture Exchange gained ground, adding 3.74 points to 970.17, while the TSX gold index logged a 14.43-point gain, ending Friday at 888.59. Most precious metals miners listed in Canada moved higher today as a result. Orezone Gold Corp. (ORE) added nine cents to $2.75 on 5.21 million shares, while Endeavour Silver Corp. (EDR) gained 39 cents to $14.76 on 1.16 million shares.
There were larger gains, but they were driven by news. Juan Gavidia's Orvana Minerals Corp. (ORV) jumped 22 cents to $2.33 on 678,000 shares on an encouraging second quarter report, and glowing words of progress at its Don Mario and Oxides Stockpile projects in Bolivia. Mr. Gavidia, chief executive officer, was "very excited" by the progress. He cheered that the new copper cathodes circuit and the revamped gold-silver dore circuit have reached ramp-up to commercial production "after overcoming logistical hurdles" during May and June.
