New York spot gold rose $38.70 to $4,414.30 on Monday. The TSX Venture Exchange moved lower, dropping 6.01 points to 964.16, while the TSX gold index logged a 15.97-point gain, ending the day at 904.56. Thor Explorations Ltd. (THX) was buoyant today, as it added eight cents to $1.15 on 4.48 million shares. GoGold Resources Inc. (GGD) also did well, adding 13 cents to $3.84 on 3.7 million shares. Altius Minerals Corp. (ALS), on the other hand, dropped 92 cents to $62.34 on 429,000 shares.

Endeavour Silver Corp. (EDR) also lost ground, dropping 69 cents to $14.07 on 1.17 million shares, but it had news. The company says that it suspended work at its Terronera mine in Mexico last Wednesday because of an illegal blockade by members of the nearby ejido community -- a Mexican commune, essentially -- which expressed concerns over road maintenance, assistance with medical services and communications, control and access to water supply, and increased financial assistance. "To date, the blockade has remained peaceful, orderly and respectful," Endeavour says.
