New York spot gold added $2.90 Thursday, taking its break at $4,524.60. The TSX Venture Exchange also edged higher, adding 1.31 points to 973.09, while the TSX gold index added 23.59 points, ending the day at 980.44 points. Orezone Gold Corp. (ORE) was a busy trader, as it added five cents to $2.77 on 41.68 million shares. So was B2Gold Corp. (BTO), which gained 15 cents to $7.43 on 8.35 million shares.
Ken Armstrong's Westhaven Gold Corp. (WHN) lost 1.5 cents to 38 cents on 1.48 million shares on word that it has drilled a 10.04-metre interval grading 12.18 grams of gold and 103 grams of silver per tonne in the South zone of its Shovelnose project in southwestern British Columbia. A second of the six new holes completed in a continuing 35,000-metre drill program also did well, returning 6.24 grams of gold and 55 grams of silver per tonne across a 37.34-metre interval.
Mr. Armstrong, president and chief executive officer, applauded the latest infill holes, noting that the two headline hits "confirm the presence of thick, high-grade gold and silver mineralization both below and at the southeastern margin of the South zone." The top result, he enthused, is of particular importance, as the 10-metre interval extends mineralization below the deepest stopes that were proposed in last year's preliminary economic assessment.
