New York spot gold retreated again Thursday, taking a break at $4,263.80, down $22.40 on the day. The TSX Venture Exchange slid 10.82 points to 913.91, while the TSX gold index dropped 11.97 points to 930.66. Precious metals miners sailed in a sea of red today, with just a few sandbars poking above water. One of those was Meridian Mining PLC, (MNO), which added five cents to $2.27 on 962,000 shares. Americas Gold and Silver Corp. (USA) lost 24 cents to $6.61 on 1.71 million shares and Endeavour Mining PLC (EDV) fell $1.87 to $84.32 on 985,000 shares, helping lead the retreat.
The leader on the southbound drive was Kinross Gold Corp. (K), down $4.41 to $34.50 on 11.63 million shares, but it had news. The company says to expect its production for 2026 and 2027 to be as much as 3 per cent below the low end of its most recent guidance, citing "extreme weather and operational challenges" at its La Coipa and Round Mountain mines. The rest of its mines continue to perform well, the company says. Oh, and of course, with lower production come the all-but-inevitable increases in operating costs.
