New York spot gold rose $20.60 by Thursday afternoon, pausing at $4,130.90. The TSX Venture Exchange lost 9.41 points to 867.76 while the TSX gold index added 11.75 points to 875.66. Lundin Gold Inc. (LUG) helped drive the advance today, adding $1.70 to end the day at $86.71 on 880,000 shares. Oceanagold Corp. (OGC) kept it company, as it added 24 cents to $37.92 on 1.43 million shares. Aris Mining Corp. (ARIS), down 82 cents on its third quarter production report yesterday, sank another 42 cents today, closing at $23.82 on 2.05 million shares.
Matt Badylak's Galiano Gold Inc. (GAU) jumped 23 cents to $3 on 971,000 shares on word that it has secured an extension of the Abirem and Miradani licences at its Asanko gold mine in Ghana, making them valid into the early 2040s. The two licences cover ground hosting the Nkran, Adubiaso and Miradani North deposits, not to mention the company's 5.8-million-tonne-per-year processing facility and associated infrastructure.
