West Texas Intermediate crude for April delivery added $1.09 to $77.58 on the New York Merc, while Brent for April added 91 cents to $82.53 (all figures in this para U.S.). Western Canadian Select traded at a discount of $19.90 to WTI, down from a discount of $16.70. Natural gas for March added six cents to $1.66. The TSX energy index added 1.36 points to close at 256.68.
The week got off to a slow start in the oil patch, but that will not last. Investors are preparing for another flood of financials. Companies releasing their year-end results this week include Baytex Energy Corp. (BTE: $4.65), Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. (CNQ: $88.98), MEG Energy Corp. (MEG: $27.52), Tamarack Valley Energy Ltd. (TVE: $3.34), Athabasca Oil Corp. (ATH: $4.76), Crescent Point Energy Corp. (CPG: $9.61) and NuVista Energy Ltd. (NVA: $11.45).
