West Texas Intermediate crude for December delivery lost 58 cents to $70.19 on the New York Merc, while Brent for December lost 58 cents to $74.38 (all figures in this para U.S.). Western Canadian Select traded at a discount of $11.20 to WTI, down from a discount of $10.80. Natural gas for November shot up 18 cents to $2.52. The TSX energy index added 1.64 points to close at 277.07.

Grant Fagerheim's Whitecap Resources Inc. (WCP) added 13 cents to $10.54 on 5.13 million shares, as investors continued to pore over the third quarter financials and 2025 guidance that it released yesterday. President and chief executive officer Mr. Fagerheim headed to BNN to talk up the numbers. He enthused over the company's profitable mix of oil- and condensate-rich liquids production and its dry gas production. Liquids are "really carrying the economics," he said. (Prices for gas have been so weak lately that despite making up more than one-third of production, gas contributed less than 3 per cent of revenue in the third quarter.) As a result, Whitecap has not announced any production curtailments (unlike some of its gassier competitors) and is planning a 5-per-cent boost in overall production in 2025 (to about 178,000 barrels a day).
