West Texas Intermediate crude for December delivery added $1.59 to $71.78 on the New York Merc, while Brent for December added $1.67 to $76.05, both benchmarks notching a weekly gain (all figures in this para U.S.). Western Canadian Select traded at a discount of $12.90 to WTI, down from a discount of $11.20. Natural gas for November added four cents to $2.56. The TSX energy index added 3.84 points to close at 280.91.
Adam Waterous's oil sands and Montney producer, the thinly traded Strathcona Resources Ltd. (SCR), added 90 cents to $28.88 on 46,700 shares. It is making some changes at the top. This generation will be a little more crowded than investors are used to. Strathcona is internally carving itself up into four units, each of which will have its own new president, and the four presidents will report to a trio of higher-ups comprising its chief financial officer, a new chief operating officer and a new chief commercial officer. The above Mr. Waterous will continue to oversee it all from his top perch as executive chairman.
