West Texas Intermediate crude for April delivery lost 68 cents to $66.90 on the New York Merc, while Brent for May lost 51 cents to $70.56 (all figures in this para U.S.). Western Canadian Select traded at a discount of $11.90 to WTI, up from a discount of $13.00. Natural gas for April added four cents to $4.05. The TSX energy index added 1.03 points to close at 264.21.
Adam Waterous's oil sands producer, Greenfire Resources Ltd. (GFR), added seven cents to $7.26 on 45,600 shares, after releasing its fourth quarter financials. Fourth quarter production of 19,400 barrels a day and cash flow of 73 cents a share were fairly flat compared with the third quarter. So far in 2025, however, production has dropped to 18,000 barrels a day. Greenfire pointed a vague finger at "unexpected facility downtime" and a steam generation unit being off-line for repairs. It did not estimate how long the repairs would take, merely saying it would provide an update "in due course."
