West Texas Intermediate crude for July delivery lost 64 cents to $60.89 on the New York Merc, while Brent for July lost 65 cents to $64.09 (all figures in this para U.S.). Western Canadian Select traded at a discount of $11.70 to WTI, up from a discount of $12.80. Natural gas for June added six cents to $3.39. The TSX energy index added a fraction of a point to close at 259.14.
The budding B.C. LNG (liquefied natural gas) industry has notched a "major construction milestone" at one of the few projects that has managed to reach the construction stage. Woodfibre LNG, which is building an eponymous $5.1-billion floating LNG export terminal near Squamish, has welcomed the arrival of its first specialized LNG modules. "With modules arriving, we've hit a tremendously exciting and important phase," gushed chief executive officer Luke Schauerte in a press release. He added that Woodfibre remains focused on "working safely and efficiently to move this project forward" to its planned completion in 2027.
