West Texas Intermediate crude for October delivery lost 49 cents to $63.48 on the New York Merc, while Brent for November lost 61 cents to $66.99 (all figures in this para U.S.). Western Canadian Select traded at a discount of $12.10 to WTI, down from a discount of $12.00. Natural gas for October added one cent to $3.07. The TSX energy index added a fraction of a point to close at 278.23.
Oil prices had another down day as traders sifted through bearish U.S. supply data. In its latest weekly data release (a day later than usual this week because of Monday's holiday), the U.S. Energy Information Administration reported that U.S. crude inventories rose by 2.4 million barrels last week. Analysts were expecting the opposite, a decrease of two million barrels. Adding to the market's nerves were concerns that OPEC+, in a battle to increase market share even if it pressures prices, may announce additional production increases at its meeting on Sunday.

Last week rumors came out that Ecopetrol was wanting to buy CNE at inflated prices due to their key gas concessions and the shortage of concession with the ban on new concessions since 2022 and that a NDA had been signed. One company said no comment on the the NDA rumors the other denied it. But CNE jumped big. This week this came out
"Mónica de Greiff, Ecopetrol’s board chair, confirmed the NDA in an interview on Caracol Radio on September 3, 2025, as reported the same day and subsequently by multiple outlets. These reports specify that the NDA was “recently” signed to enable information exchange for a potential negotiation between Ecopetrol and Canacol."
