West Texas Intermediate crude for November delivery added $1.13 to $63.41 on the New York Merc, while Brent for November added $1.06 to $67.63 (all figures in this para U.S.). Western Canadian Select traded at a discount of $12.70 to WTI, down from a discount of $11.50. Natural gas for October added four cents to $2.85. The TSX energy index added 3.02 points to close at 290.29.
Jim Riddell's Alberta Duvernay- and Montney-focused Paramount Resources Ltd. (POU) added 18 cents to $21.81 on 490,900 shares, as investors continued to applaud yesterday's profit-taking in a rival producer (NuVista Energy Corp. (NVA: $16.34)) and an accompanying operational update. As discussed yesterday, Paramount sold a hefty chunk of NuVista shares at $16 after previously scooping them up at a COVID bargain price of just 61 cents. This $296-million sale has plumped up its treasury as it ponders a sizable operational expansion that could get a final investment decision (FID) in a matter of weeks.
