The B.C. Securities Commission has filed an insider trading case against Graham Leslie Harris, the chairman of TSX Venture Exchange listing Surge Battery Metals Inc., over shares that he sold in 2023. The BCSC says that Mr. Harris unloaded $460,564 worth of stock while in possession of undisclosed drill results from a Nevada property. He and the company's other insiders were subject to a trading blackout at the time, according to the BCSC.
The allegations are contained in a brief notice of hearing that the BCSC released on Tuesday, Nov. 3. The sole respondent is Mr. Harris, who was appointed the chairman of Surge on June 6, 2023. He remains with the company.
The trading, as set out by the BCSC, occurred in September, 2023, when Surge was working on a lithium property in the United States called Nevada North. According to the BCSC, the company received results from a drill hole on Sept. 4, 2023, with Mr. Harris learning about the results that afternoon. Shortly after the results arrived, Mr. Harris asked the company's corporate secretary to issue a trading blackout that applied to all directors and employees, which lasted until the results were issued about a week later, the BCSC says.
