The critical and specialty minerals stocks box score on Friday was a positive 77-86-147 as the TSX Venture Exchange dipped three points to 927. Scandium International Mining Corp. (SCY) has been silent for months, but it added one cent to 17.5 cents on 1.4 million shares today, on one of its busier days in months.
Mark Carruthers's Medaro Mining Corp. (MEDA) slid three cents to 22 cents on 107,000 shares. The company has "highly encouraging rock chip assay results" for its Bastnas project, a rare earth element project in central Sweden. Over 200 samples were collected from a wide range of waste dumps and outcrops across the property during the summer, an effort supported by a high-resolution, low-elevation drone magnetic survey. Several highly encouraging targets have been identified, the company cheers, with further work later this year to include additional mineralogical work and -- hallelujah -- drilling.
The assays, the company says, "highlight the overall polymetallic nature of the Bastnas project with exceptional grades of critical metals." Those grades varied from 9.7 per cent to 33 per cent total rare earth oxides (TREO), accompanied by significant grades of gold, copper, silver, gallium and tungsten. That is not all: "Selective individual rock samples," the company says -- Mr. Regulator will remind you that all grab samples are selective by nature -- returned up to 16.5 grams of gold and 260 grams of gallium oxide per tonne, along with 23.7 per cent copper and 0.31 per cent tungsten.
