The critical and specialty minerals stocks box score for Thursday was a weak 72-105-143 as the TSX Venture Exchange fell three points to 878. John Lee's Cleantech Vanadium Mining Corp. (CTV) lost two cents to 9.5 cents on 772,000 shares. The company has just sold another 2.15 million shares at 10 cents apiece in a third tranche of the $1-million placement it launched late in August.

Cleantech cheered the sale of 2.99 million shares in a first tranche just a few days after it launched the placement, and another 2.9 million shares went in a second tranche completed in mid-September. With the latest tranche, the company has now raked in just over $800,000. That was $200,000 shy of its goal, but this was the final kick at the can, Cleantech says.

Cleantech launched the placement immediately after closing an earlier financing -- one that was to have raked in $1.56-million through the sale of 12 million shares at 13 cents each when it began in mid-June. That offering was tweaked to 11 cents per share in early July, after it became clear the stock was not flying off the shelves. The lowered price cut did attract some buyers, but in the end, just 3.94 million shares were sold for a total of $433,000. And so, the two placements brought in a total of just over $1.2-million.
