New York spot gold rose $4.90 to $1,924.40 on Friday. The TSX Venture Exchange gained 1.5 points to 570.09 while the TSX gold index dipped 0.96 point to 270.78. Most Canadian gold miners moved higher with bullion initially, but staggered toward the close. Franco-Nevada Corp. (FNV), up over $4 yesterday, added another 44 cents to $189.72 on 294,000 shares today. West Red Lake Gold Mines Ltd. (WRLG) was more energetic, adding three cents to 62 cents on 1.3 million shares. Alamos Gold Inc. (AGI) on the other hand slid 65 cents to $16.18 on 1.19 million shares.
Renaud Adams's Iamgold Corp.(IMG) lost six cents to $3.05 on 675,000 shares on word that its chairman, Maryse Belanger, has left the company's board "for personal reasons and other commitments." She joined the company in early 2022 and immediately became its chairman. A few months later she took up residence in the corner office as interim president and chief executive officer, roles that she turned over to Mr. Adams this past March.
