New York spot gold rose $18.30 Thursday, closing at $2,692.50. The TSX Venture Exchange added 2.26 points to 608.9 while the TSX gold index added 6.02 points to 392.64. Most Canadian gold miners moved higher today, with New Found Gold Corp. (NFG), a laggard of late, adding 16 cents to $3.60 on 499,000 shares.

Equinox Gold Corp. (EQX) was an exception to the good cheer, as it lost 57 cents to $7.50 on 9.71 million shares. The slide followed word that the company has pared its 2024 production guidance to perhaps 120,000 ounces, from an earlier mid-range target of 190,000 ounces. The cut is the result of reality being a rougher road than prediction as Equinox ramps up its new Greenstone mine in Northern Ontario.

John Lewins's K92 Mining Inc. (KNT), on the other hand, had a good day. The company's stock jumped $1.60 to $9.45 over a three-day period ending Tuesday but lost 51 cents yesterday -- all without benefit of news. Today, K92 jumped 60 cents to $9.54 on 4.79 million shares on word of an updated development plan for its Kainantu gold mine in Papua New Guinea.
