New York spot gold rose $18.80 to close at $2,649.60. The TSX Venture Exchange lost 2.98 points to 596.25, while the TSX gold index added 0.74 point to 360.07. Despite the modest index movement, there were some larger moves by individual stocks. New Found Gold Corp. (NFG) found yet another four-year low, dropping to $2.22 at one point today before closing at $2.27, down 21 cents on 1.84 million shares. It had nothing new to report today. China Gold International Resources Corp. (CGG) went the other way in silence, adding 61 cents to $7.60 on 64,000 shares.

There were some other hard falls prodded by news. Dan Dickson and Rex McLennan's Endeavour Silver Corp. (EDR) slid 61 cents to $6.28 on 2.76 million shares on word it has arranged to sell 15.83 million shares at $4.60 (U.S.) each -- about $6.44 in Canadian currency. And so, while some investors were content to pay over $7 for a share on Monday, today's buyers insisted on getting the same deal that the underwriters are getting.
