New York spot gold rose $50.20 to $3,338.20 on Thursday as global stock markets appeared to take a breather from their recent gyrations. TSX Venture Exchange nevertheless gained 14.92 points to 650.35 while the TSX gold index added 7.48 points to 480.65. Golds with a copper kicker were strong. First Quantum Minerals Ltd. (FM) added 86 cents to $19.09 on 7.85 million shares on word of a solid first quarter, but Americas Gold and Silver Corp. (USA) fell three cents to 86 cents on 6.13 million shares.
Keyvan Salehi's STLLR Gold Inc. (STLR) rose one cent to $1.08 on 113,000 shares on word that it has drilled a 33-metre interval grading 2.22 grams of gold per tonne, at its Tower project in the Timmins area of Northern Ontario. The hit came from infill drilling in the 903 deposit -- a program that the company applauds as assisted by artificial intelligence technology. Four other holes also intercepted gold, but with lesser grades and narrower widths.
