New York spot gold moved higher on Wednesday, adding $20.90 to $3,372.70. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 2.20 points to 719.43 and the TSX gold index tacked on 0.87 point to 504.94. Aya Gold & Silver Inc. (AYA) gained 53 cents to $13.64 on 1.86 million shares as one of the better performers today. Artemis Gold Inc. (ARTG) also did well, with a 56-cent increase to end the day at $25.38 on 1.23 million shares. Not so strong was Endeavour Mining PLC (EDV), which fell $1.07 to $42.91 on 925,000 shares.

Greg Lang's Novagold Resources Inc. (NG) jumped $1.24 to $6.41 on 2.47 million shares on word that it and Paulson Advisers LLC have completed their acquisition of the 50-per-cent interest in the Donlin gold project in Alaska that had been held by Barrick Gold Corp. (ABX). (Shareholders of Barrick were not as pleased perhaps, as Barrick was unchanged at $27.57 on 3.76 million shares today.)
