New York spot gold rose $10.80 on Friday, ending the week at $3,349.10. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 6.09 points to 797.75 while the TSX gold index fell 2.18 points to 491.71. Sadly, those indices do tell a tale: Yes, the TSX-V is edging close to the 800-point mark, last seen three years ago and not seen much at all since the "Great Collapse" -- the immolation of the junior resource sector that burned itself out in 2014. Greying investors will recall the glory days before the Great Recession when the TSX-V got to 3,372 points -- ending a decade-long advance that began in the late 1990s.
But, back to gold. There were some advances today in the absence of news, including Aya Gold & Silver Inc. (AYA), which rose 11 cents to $13.13 on 916,000 shares. There were plenty of precious metals miners southbound today, but most lost little, like GoGold Resources Inc. (GGD), which got up and went one cent lower today, closing at $2.14 on 730,000 shares. Endeavour Silver Corp. (EDR) was one of the more adventurous ones, as it fell 27 cents to $7.39 on 1.63 million shares.
