New York spot gold rose $20.60 Thursday to $3,416.10. The TSX Venture Exchange added 4.15 points to 817.38 while the TSX gold index slipped 4.43 points to 593.56. Golconda Gold Ltd. (GG) followed bullion, not the index, as it jumped 23 cents to $1.32 on 1.17 million shares on second quarter encouragement. Americas Gold and Silver Corp. (USA) also did well, adding 22 cents to $3.55 on 1.61 million shares in silence. Iamgold Corp. (IMG) was among those in retreat, as it fell 30 cents to $12.32 on 4.87 million shares.

Dr. David Palmer's Probe Gold Inc. (PRB) rose two cents to $2.53 on 224,000 shares on word it has drilled a 5.5-metre interval grading 41.1 uncut grams of gold per tonne at depth on its Novador project, near Val d'Or in northwestern Quebec. Much of the gold sat within a three-metre portion that graded 73.3 uncut grams per tonne. (When cut to 50 grams per tonne, the richer zone grades 35.3 grams per tonne and the full zone measures 20.4 grams per tonne.)
