New York spot gold fell $27.50 Monday, taking a break at $5,144.50. The TSX Venture Exchange rallied to end the day up 6.39 points to 1,063.43, while the TSX gold index added 7.71 points to 982.30. All Canadian golds were down early in the day, but some rebounded well, like Soma Gold Corp. (SOMA). It ended the day up 13 cents to $2.10 on 780,000 shares. Others stayed in the red. New Found Gold Corp. (NFG) was down 25 cents early but closed just three cents lower, at $3.45 on 898,000 shares.

Dan Wilton's First Mining Gold Corp. (FF) rose two cents to 58 cents on 4.8 million shares on word that it has drilled an eight-metre interval grading 7.18 grams of gold per tonne at the Miroir target on its Duparquet project in the Abitibi district of Quebec. Much of the gold sat within a 1.65-metre stretch that graded 30.58 grams per tonne. Other holes at Miroir also did well: Another yielded 1.56 grams of gold per tonne across 33.15 metres, also with a higher-grade subinterval, while a third new hole produced 4.08 grams per tonne across 12 metres.
