New York spot gold rose $65.10 Wednesday, taking its afternoon break at $4,546.20. The TSX Venture Exchange regained 22.43 points to 979.68 while the TSX gold index added 22.12 points to 845.37. Most precious metals miners gained ground today. Silver X Mining Corp. (AGX) rose five cents to 75 cents on 1.81 million shares while Eldorado Gold Corp. (ELD) added $2.30 to $43.97 on 2.31 million shares. Allied Gold Corp. (AAUC), on the other hand, fell $1.75 to $36.25 on 10.88 million shares. All made their moves in silence.
The Lucky Strike zone lived up to its moniker today, with word that Joseph Ovsenek's P2 Gold Inc. (PGLD) has scored a bonanza-grade hit in that area of its Gabbs project in Nevada. The headline hit, which sent P2 Gold up five cents to 81 cents on 595,000 shares, returned 183 grams of gold per tonne plus 4.0 per cent copper, over a 1.52-metre zone at a downhole depth of 73 metres. (The rich zone occurred within a 53.3-metre interval that graded -- these are now capped grades -- 1.04 grams of gold per tonne plus 0.35 per cent copper.)
