New York spot gold lost $6.20 Tuesday, pausing for air at $4,291.90. The TSX Venture Exchange lost 18.89 points to 900.98, while the TSX gold index added 0.46 point to 935.90. Most precious metals miners moved lower today. Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. (AEM) dropped 83 cents to $273.16 on 1.17 million shares and DPM Metals Inc. (DPM) lost $48 cents to $58.07 on 878,000 shares. Trekor Metals Ltd. (TKO), on the other hand, added 21 cents to $11.07 on 1.7 million shares.
Segun Lawson's Thor Explorations Ltd. (THX) applauded "encouraging maiden exploration drilling results" from Marahui, in Ivory Coast, but the news did not yield a gain, as it was unchanged at $1.27 on 743,000 shares. The headline hit spanned nine near-surface metres that graded 5.4 grams of gold per tonne, closely followed by a somewhat deeper six-metre zone that ran 5.6 grams per tonne. There were other hits generating encouragement, including a third hole that returned 6.2 grams of gold per tonne across six metres at an intermediate depth.
