West Texas Intermediate crude for June delivery edged up 23 cents to $63.02 on the New York Merc, while Brent for June added 32 cents to $66.87 (all figures in this para U.S.). Despite today's increase, both benchmarks notched a weekly decline; they have now been down three of the past four weeks. Western Canadian Select traded at a discount of $12.60 to WTI, up from a discount of $12.90. Natural gas for May was unchanged at $2.93. The TSX energy index lost a fraction of a point to close at 245.52.
Robert Bose's offshore Namibian explorer, Sintana Energy Inc. (SEI), lost half a cent to 52 cents on 511,400 shares, giving back a bit of the five cents it added yesterday on news of its neighbours' oil discovery in Namibia's Orange basin. The discovery was made at the PEL 85 block, just south of Sintana's partially owned PEL 83. Rumours of a light oil discovery made by the Capricornus-1X exploration well at PEL 85 began swirling last week. They were confirmed yesterday by the operator, South Africa's Rhino Resources, as well as joint venturer NAMCOR (Namibia's state oil company) and BP and Eni (the co-owners of Azure Energy, a fellow joint venturer at the block).
