Regency Silver Corp.'s former president, Gijsbert Groenewegen, has filed a lawsuit against the company in the Supreme Court of British Columbia over his firing. Mr. Groenewegen claims that Regency's board dismissed him after a failed attempt remove him as a major shareholder. The lawsuit seeks the court-ordered payment of Mr. Groenewegen's management fee of $120,000 plus other damages arising from the company's "reprehensible conduct."
The allegations are contained in a notice of claim that Mr. Groenewegen filed at the Vancouver courthouse on Sept. 4, 2025. The lawsuit identifies Mr. Groenewegen as an experienced senior executive and lawyer, with a background in raising money. Mr. Groenewegen says that he helped found Regency, which is exploring for gold, copper and silver in Mexico.
The lawsuit stems from Mr. Groenewegen's dismissal, which occurred on April 17, 2025. On that date, Regency Silver issued a news release in which it said that Mr. Groenewegen had "ceased to be" the president, chief executive officer and a director of the company. The news release made no mention of the circumstances of the dismissal, only saying that the company had appointed Bruce Bragagnolo in Mr. Groenewegen's place.
