The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has charged New Jersey resident Chris Farrant, claiming that he was one of the sources of inside information used by former broker Jordan Meadow as he entered trades that generated hundreds of thousands in gains. The SEC claims that Mr. Meadow offered payouts that potentially included Rolex watches in return for inside information. Mr. Farrant and a roommate had obtained the information through a work laptop belonging to the roommate's girlfriend.

The charges against Mr. Farrant, announced by the SEC on Tuesday, Sept. 29, add another defendant to the case against Mr. Meadow, who is accused of a scheme involving shares of Toronto Stock Exchange listings Score Media and Gaming Inc. and Domtar Corp. The SEC says that Mr. Meadow traded on inside information obtained from Mr. Farrant and a third defendant, New York resident Steven Teixeira. The men hatched the scheme during a drive to New Jersey in March, 2021, according to the SEC.
