The Globe and Mail reports in its Saturday edition that Canada's new Natural Resources Minister, Tim Hodgson, asserts that increased oil and gas infrastructure is essential for boosting trade with overseas markets and enhancing energy supplies in Eastern Canada. The Globe's Emma Graney and Jeffrey Jones write that speaking in Calgary after meetings with Western Canadian leaders, including Alberta's Energy Minister Brian Jean, Mr. Hodgson criticized U.S. President Donald Trump's tariffs and trade tensions affecting Canada. He said: "We did not ask for this trade war. But we are going to win it. If we're going to sit across the table from him or anyone else, we need to hold Canada's best cards. That means being able to sell our products to the world. It means expanding our markets, modernizing our infrastructure and creating the conditions to compete and win." He added that Canada will remain a reliable global supplier of oil and gas for decades to come. "It's high time to trade more with people who share our values -- not just our border." He committed to collaborate with provinces, industry and indigenous partners to diversify trade and expand markets for energy, critical minerals and forest products.
