The Financial Post reports in its Friday, Nov. 7, edition that business leaders welcomed the investment policies in Tuesday's federal budget, though some questioned the aggressiveness of Prime Minister Mark Carney's government and warned that more work is needed for economic benefits. The Post's Jordan Gowling writes that Business Council of Canada chief executive officer Goldy Hyder said, "This was a transformational budget at a time in which the country is truly in crisis." Ultimately, however, Mr. Hyder said the federal budget was too cautious, and that he had hoped the Carney government would have gone further. He said, "I think the Canadian public gave them social licence to go further, faster, deeper and they just didn't take that up. The budget was in large part a response to the economic consequences of the trade war with the United States." Bill Morneau, former finance minister and corporate director at Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, said, "Execution will be key." He said, "I am pleased they are making significant efforts; we're not getting back to the scale of the public service when I left in 2020, we're moving back to period after that, so I think there will more work to be done in this area."
