The Globe and Mail reports in its Thursday, Feb. 20, edition that Desjardins Securities analyst Brent Stadler is keeping his "buy" call for Capital Power intact. The Globe's David Leeder writes that Mr. Stadler cut his share target to $68 from $69. Analysts on average target the shares at $63.42. Mr. Stadler thinks the recent selling of Capital Power in the frenzy surrounding the emergence of China's DeepSeek artificial intelligence model has created an attractive entry point for investors "ahead of material catalysts." Mr. Stadler says in a note: "Further, we believe gas tailwinds should remain strong and, with 50 per cent of its installed capacity in the U.S., Capital Power's valuation is highly attractive vs U.S. IPPs. On this theme, we believe U.S. recontracting will be accretive to NAV and estimates; we also highlight that 50 per cent of Capital Power's assets are benefiting from the current environment and remind investors of this U.S. tailwind. ... We believe investors should be taking advantage of recent weakness. ... Capital Power remains a favoured way to play the energy transition." The Globe reported on Jan. 3 that Mr. Stadler was sticking with his "buy" call when the shares could be had for $60.64.
