The Globe and Mail reports in its Saturday, April 11, edition that Paul Borrelli and Sean Goldberg, executives at Green Infrastructure Partners (GIP), the sister construction company to GFL Environmental, and GFL chief executive officer Patrick Dovigi and his business associate Ted Manziaris, who now works with GIP, have been the targets of several shootings. The Globe's Robyn Doolittle and Tim Kiladze write that these attacks were among at least a dozen targeting GFL and GIP properties and equipment since June, 2024. Police have arrested two of the alleged triggermen. However, police believe these shooters were hired guns, acting on the orders of someone else. While detectives had revealed almost nothing about their probe, The Globe says court documents show that hours after a September, 2024, shooting episode, police began investigating whether the attacks may be linked to a feud between a handful of GIP executives and the owner of a Toronto excavating and shoring company. That owner is 42-year-old Ilan Philosophe, the founder of Astro Excavating and its offshoot company, Astro Shoring. He denies all charges. Mr. Philosophe says all he has done is send vulgar text messages, which he now regrets.
