The Globe and Mail reports in its Wednesday edition that RBC analyst Paul Treiber anticipates that first quarter results for Canadian tech companies will align with consensus expectations. The Globe's David Leeder writes that Mr. Treiber cautions, however, that macroeconomic uncertainties from tariffs may lead to longer sales cycles and lower near-term bookings for software firms, while reduced consumer spending could negatively impact those reliant on payment-related revenue. Accordingly, Mr. Treiber trimmed his share target for CGI to $185 from $192. Analysts on average target the shares at $175.71. Mr. Treiber continues to rate CGI at "outperform." Mr. Treiber says in a note: "We believe the IT services industry is likely to face growth headwinds over the next several quarters given macro uncertainty weighing on discretionary spending. As a result, we believe CGI's organic growth and bookings are likely to slow. However, CGI has deployed $1.3-billion capital on acquisitions in the last five months. We believe accretion from acquisitions will help mitigate slower organic growth." The Globe reported May 3 that Mr. Treiber was sticking with his "outperform" call for CGI. The shares could then be had for $139.36.
