The Globe and Mail reports in its Thursday edition that Iran and Oman are finalizing an agreement on the Strait of Hormuz, following statements from Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps about a shared plan for the waterway and its revenues. A Reuters dispatch to The Globe reports that the IRGC said the strait would not open unless the United States met Tehran's conditions under a June ceasefire deal before unravelling. Those conditions include an end to the U.S. blockade on Iranian ports, compensation and removal of sanctions. Iran and Oman have held on-and-off talks for weeks about controlling traffic through the strait. "An agreement with Oman over the Strait of Hormuz has not been finalized," a source told Reuters, adding that the talks were continuing on the details of an accord. President Donald Trump has warned Oman against co-operating with Iran, telling Fox News on Aug. 17, "If Oman gets in the way, we'll bomb the shit out of them." The IRGC accused the U.S. of seeking to obstruct Iran's negotiations with Oman and said this had caused an agreement to be delayed. The IRGC said if the U.S. stops obstructing and returns to the agreement, "the strait can open within the framework of the agreement reached."
