The Globe's Joe Friesen writes that she employs Microsoft's Copilot to summarize articles and clarify concepts and has transformed course materials into AI-narrated podcasts. While universities are cautious about AI due to concerns over academic integrity -- 83 per cent of Canadian postsecondary administrators believe it will be used to cheat -- students like Ms. Narumathan are finding it helpful for genuine learning enhancement. The 2024 Pan-Canadian Report on Digital Learning found a significant rise in generative AI usage among postsecondary students. Educators' use of AI in learning activities increased from 12 per cent to 41 per cent, and the use by instructors for creating course materials rose from 19 per cent to 49 per cent. The report suggests that AI will soon be a standard aspect of postsecondary education, with some universities advocating for teaching students how to effectively work with this technology.
