The Financial Post reports in its Friday, Oct. 23, edition that Meta shares fell Thursday after chief executive officer Mark Zuckerberg told investors the company would bet even more aggressively on artificial intelligence. A Bloomberg dispatch to the Post reports that Meta increased its capital spending plans and announced a new class of non-voting stock during its quarterly earnings report. Meta's recent moves reflect growing confidence in its substantial AI investments. After facing skepticism from investors over rising costs, Meta has made progress, particularly with a new AI agent called Muse, which Mr. Zuckerberg cited as a reason to continue advancing in this area. "Our investments are paying off, the core business is strong, and we're seeing velocity across the board," Mr. Zuckerberg said in Wednesday's report. Investors remained skeptical as Meta shares dropped over 7 per cent to below $650 (U.S.), with its credit risk gauge hitting a record high. The price of five-year credit default swaps on its debt rose by 8.9 basis points to around 119.3 basis points. Alphabet, Microsoft and Amazon, three of the other biggest spenders on AI datacentres, are slated to deliver their quarterly results next week.
