Post says climate change hits prices at RBI's Tims

2025-10-07 09:08 ET - In the News

The National Post reports in its Tuesday edition that Tim Hortons is raising its coffee prices for the first time in roughly three years. The Post's Laura Brehaut writes that Tims fans can expect to pay an average of three cents more per cup -- an increase that reflects rising prices around the globe. The cost of coffee beans has more than doubled over the past three years, a Tim Hortons spokesperson said. According to Marketwatch, the cost of beans jumped from $2.21 to $5.45 per pound. Tim Hortons' price hike represents an average increase of roughly 1.5 per cent per cup compared to overall inflation of 7 per cent over the same period. The chain called its three-cent rise "more than reasonable." A National Post reporter experienced a seven-cent increase on a large coffee while the small and medium sizes remained the same. Experts say inclement weather in key coffee-producing countries, Brazil and Vietnam, is one factor affecting prices. Brazil has been experiencing lingering dry, hot weather. Severe conditions are only expected to continue, with forecasters preparing for a return to La Nina weather patterns from October to December. Coffee prices in grocery stores are up 27.9 per cent in August from a year ago.
