The Globe and Mail reports in its Wednesday edition that Canadian banks continue to rank among the world's top adopters of artificial intelligence, and lenders are racing to demonstrate that the billions of dollars spent on the new technology is translating into financial returns. The Globe's Stefanie Marotta writes that AI benchmarking platform Evident ranked Canada's five biggest banks in the top 30 of a list of 50 global financial institutions on talent, innovation, leadership and transparency. Royal Bank ranked third globally for the fifth consecutive year as it continues to translate its AI research into capabilities that can be deployed across the company, spanning technical delivery, adoption and controls, Evident said. TD edged up three spots to rank 10th as it increasingly deploys its AI research, tools and applications in measurable ways, and focuses investments on high-impact areas, including credit adjudication, software development and contact centres. BMO ranked 20th over all and second for adopting responsible AI principles, CIBC took the 21st spot, and Scotiabank landed in 30th place. American financial institutions took the top two spots, with JPMorgan ranking first and Capital One placing second.
