The Globe and Mail reports in its Wednesday, Aug. 14, edition that TD Cowen analyst Mario Mendonca is keeping his "hold" recommendation for Sun Life Financial intact. The Globe's David Leeder writes in the Eye On Equities column that Mr. Mendonca tweaked his share target back by a loonie to $72. Analysts on average target the shares at $78.67. Mr. Mendonca says in a note: "Sun Life Financial beat estimates on lower expenses, but the quarter featured weak top line results in two of Sun Life's most important businesses: MFS (spike in outflows) and U.S. dental (sales down 85 per cent on Medicaid redetermination). Management remains confident that dental sales/earnings will recover in '25. Sun Life Financial also reported a restructuring charge and elevated R/E charges which hurt our outlook on earnings quality." The Globe reported on June 2, 2022, Feb. 22, 2024, and Aug. 1, 2024, that National Bank Financial analyst Gabriel Dechaine rated Sun Life Financial "sector perform." The shares could then be had for $62.61, $85.46 and $68.54. The Globe reported on Aug. 2 that Scotia Capital analyst Meny Grauman rated Sun Life Financial "sector outperform." The shares could then be had for $67.33.
