The Globe and Mail reports in its Tuesday, April 22, edition that Desjardins Securities analyst Doug Young has reiterated his "buy" recommendation for Sun Life Financial. The Globe's David Leeder writes that Mr. Young gave his share target a $3 trim to $87. Analysts on average target the shares at $87.67. While Mr. Young expects "decent" first quarter results from Canada's life insurance companies, he predicts the focus of investors "clearly will be on management teams' outlooks for various businesses across several geographies." Mr. Young says in a note: "While not long ago their international diversification was viewed as a big positive, sentiment has shifted, at least near-term, on the back of all the U.S. tariff noise. We lowered our 1Q25, 2025 and 2026 core EPS estimates for the group due to lower equity markets (in 1Q25 and so far in 2Q25), as well as various other macro items including the potential for more credit pressures. ... Any negative surprises will not be well-received. And we encourage the lifecos to provide a little more clarity on how credit pressures flow through core results." Mr. Young is currently projecting core earnings per share to increase by 10 per cent year-over-year on average.
