MOUNT LAUREL, N.J. -- (Business Wire)

TD Bank U.S. today unveiled TD Credit Assist, an AI capability that reduces the time required to prepare a first-draft commercial credit analysis from up to three working days to less than 30 minutes. Credit Assist brings together information from complex documents to create a structured, cited draft of six key credit memo sections for review and underwriting by TD's more than 300 credit professionals who prepare more than 10,000 credit memos annually. By reducing the administrative work involved in preparing a first draft, Credit Assist gives credit professionals more time to understand each client’s business, assess risk and engage with clients throughout the credit review.

Key Points:

  • TD Bank U.S. has launched TD Credit Assist, a multi-agent AI capability developed by its Analytics, Intelligence & AI team, Layer 6 and commercial credit experts for more than 300 TD credit professionals.
  • The capability reduces preparation of a first-draft commercial credit memo from up to three working days to less than 30 minutes, allowing credit professionals to spend more time assessing risk and working with clients.
  • TD unveiled Credit Assist at the 2026 Evident AI Symposium in New York, following the bank’s rise to No. 10 in the 2026 Evident AI Index.
  • Credit Assist was tested on 220 curated deals with input from more than 70 domain experts, and 95% of evaluated outputs passed subject-matter expert review.

Unveiled at the 2026 Evident AI Symposium in New York, Credit Assist demonstrates how TD is moving AI from experimentation into practical applications with measurable business value. The launch follows TD’s three-place rise to No. 10 in the 2026 Evident AI Index, which evaluates the AI maturity of 50 of the world’s largest banks.

A single credit review can involve 20 to 30 deal documents spanning more than 50 document types. Credit Assist uses an orchestration layer to coordinate specialized AI agents to process, extract, analyze and organize the information and develop multiple sections with a cited narrative in parallel, with each section undergoing its own process of analysis, review and refinement. Instead of beginning with a blank page, credit professionals receive a cited draft they can question, verify and refine.

“Credit Assist is a great example of how we're simplifying and optimizing the way we work,” said Jill Gateman, Head of Commercial Banking, TD Bank U.S. “By reducing time spent on manual preparation, our credit professionals can focus more of their time on understanding the client, assessing risk and moving opportunities forward, while maintaining the rigor and accountability that are fundamental to good lending decisions."

From AI research to a practical banking solution

TD’s Analytics, Intelligence & AI team led the end-to-end development and delivery of Credit Assist, working with commercial credit professionals and experts across technology, risk, architecture, governance and controls. Layer 6, TD’s AI research and development center, developed the underlying AI capabilities. Together, the teams translated advanced AI research and commercial underwriting expertise into a practical capability built around how credit professionals work.

Credit Assist was tested using 220 curated deals, with input from more than 70 domain experts. Credit professionals evaluated the AI-generated analysis against TD standards and helped refine the capability through each iteration. Across the segments evaluated, 95% of outputs passed subject-matter expert review, helping ensure the solution would support TD’s reviews and underwriting.

“Credit Assist shows what is possible when advanced AI is developed alongside the people who understand the business problem best,” said Sumee Seetharaman, Head of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Practice & Center of Excellence, Layer 6 at TD. “Combining AI research with deep commercial credit expertise helped us build the technology around the realities of the work.”

Building a foundation for future AI innovation

Credit Assist reflects TD’s broader approach to AI: apply the technology to meaningful business problems, build transparency into the experience and keep people accountable for decisions. Required controls and professional reviews remain in place, and credit professionals continue to be responsible for lending recommendations and final decisions.

Credit Assist also provides a foundation for broader AI-enabled transformation at TD. Its reusable AI agents, orchestration capabilities and governance practices can be adapted to address other business needs, helping TD accelerate future AI innovation. Over time, this approach can reduce repetitive work across more of the client lifecycle and give colleagues greater capacity to support informed decisions.

“The future of AI in banking is human-led and AI-enhanced,” said Ted Paris, Head of Analytics, Intelligence & AI, TD Bank U.S. “Credit Assist demonstrates how AI can take on time-consuming preparation while credit professionals remain firmly at the center, applying their experience, assessing risk and making informed lending recommendations."
