The B.C. Securities Commission's criminal investigations branch has filed charges against Shaun Anthony John Pollard, a resident of West Vancouver. The BCSC claims that Mr. Pollard violated tipping rules, with the allegation stemming from events that occurred in 2018. The BCSC says he recommended that someone enter trades while knowing an undisclosed material fact.

Word of the charges against Mr. Pollard, 46, is contained in a brief news release that the BCSC issued on Monday, Sept. 16. Mr. Pollard was arrested on the charges in Vancouver on Monday, and made an initial appearance before a judge in the Provincial Court of British Columbia. He was released on $4,000 bail.

While the BCSC's news release says little, Stockwatch records indicate that Mr. Pollard has had roles with TSX Venture Exchange listing Westhaven Gold Corp. since 2010. In late 2018, Westhaven became a heavy trader, reaching a high of $1.43 on drill results from the company's Shovelnose project near Merritt, B.C. The results included a 1.65-metre headline hit that graded 175 grams per tonne gold with 249 g/t silver, which the company disclosed on Oct. 2, 2018. Westhaven's shares, which could be had for as little as 9.5 cents earlier in the year, rose above $1 as results continued to arrive.

How about all those daily tips about the stock going higher tomorrow? And it doesn’t go higher? Is that a fraudulent tip?
