The Globe and Mail reports in its Tuesday, Sept. 15, edition that Microsoft recently introduced a draft code of conduct for its in-house artificial intelligence, addressing industry concerns about ensuring human control over powerful AI. A Reuters dispatch to The Globe reports that the document mandates that Microsoft's AI must accept corrections, communicate clearly with humans and regard any conduct violation as a failure to address concerns about AI potentially taking dangerous actions to complete tasks. The release follows calls from Anthropic chief executive officer Dario Amodei and Microsoft-backed OpenAI CEO Sam Altman for the industry to slow AI development for safety. "People matter more than AI," Microsoft declared, in line with its prior vision for "humanist superintelligence." The code of conduct represents a constitution of sorts for future models made by the company, says Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman. Microsoft seeks public feedback over six weeks on its AI design, including questions about respecting user boundaries and interactions with individuals in sensitive states. "After that, it"s going to be used to train the models that we build," Mr. Suleyman says of the code.
