The Globe and Mail reports in its Thursday edition that TD Cowen analysts Graham Ryding and Sam Damiani say turbulent macroeconomic conditions are weighing on investor sentiment toward both consumer and mortgage lenders heading into third quarter earnings season. The Globe's David Leeder writes in the Eye On Equities column that Mr. Graham and Mr. Damiani reduced their target multiples for consumer lenders in their coverage universe to "reflect higher macro uncertainty and interest rates." For mortgage lenders, they see the outlook for elevated bond yields raising projected dividend yields, however, they cut their share targets. Accordingly, Mr. Ryding and Mr. Damiani cut their share target for Atrium Mortgage Investment, which they rate "buy," to $12.40 from $13. Analysts on average target the shares at $12.75. Mr. Ryding and Mr. Damiani say in a note: "We expect healthy quarter-over-quarter portfolio growth in Q3/26 following elevated repayment activity in 1H/26. Management expressed confidence toward the portfolio exiting 2026 above $900-million (vs. $860-million in Q2/26). Provisions for staged loans appear sufficient (ACL [allowance for credit losses] of 3.5 per cent compares to a 2.9-per-cent average since 2022)."
