The Globe and Mail reports in its Wednesday edition that Bank of Nova Scotia is shuffling its most senior leadership ranks as it continues to rejig its business as part of a strategic turnaround plan, shifting its top executives in its risk and strategy units. The Globe's Stefanie Marotta writes that Phil Thomas, after four years as Scotiabank's chief risk officer, is now the group head and chief strategy and operating officer. He will concentrate on client experience and artificial intelligence innovation while overseeing other corporate functions. Mr. Thomas joined Scotiabank in 1997. Shannon McGinnis has been promoted to chief risk officer at Scotiabank, becoming the first woman to hold the position. She joined from Toronto-Dominion Bank, where she was executive vice-president of non-financial risk management. Chief strategy and operating officer Anique Asher is transitioning to executive vice-president of the bank's real estate secured lending division, overseeing a key business. She will also join the board of the Canadian Bankers Association in the new year. Since joining the lender in 2018, Ms. Asher has held executive roles in finance, strategy and optimization, having previously worked at Manulife.
